Dear Friends;

Welcome to a new year of Chamber Music with the Veronika String Quartet!

We are leaving behind an excellent 2012-13 season with great reviews. There was a successful appearance at the Lancaster Festival in Ohio, summer practice session in August and concerts at the Rusted Poppy Inn in Pueblo and Pauline Chapel in Colorado Springs, several concerts for the elderly and recordings at Colorado Public Radio.

We have an even more exciting 2013-14 season coming up with three regularly scheduled programs in Pueblo and Colorado Springs and a few new projects on the way.

As usual, we've done a lot of good natured arguing about the programs! The theme of this season, Sound Encounters gave us many choices for selecting well balanced programs with powerful masterpieces and a few rarely performed works of chamber music.

The season opener is a program entitled Mastery, which includes three of the most beloved works of the Chamber Music repertoire: String Quartet in F Major, Op. 135 by L. van Beethoven; String Quartet in F Minor, Op. 80 by F. Mendelssohn; and String Quartet in D Minor, D. 810, "Death and the Maiden" by F. Schubert. All of these are the final pieces of chamber music these composers wrote.

Our second program, Delicacy, features celebrates guest artists, Basil Vendryes, on the viola and Clayton Vaughn, on the cello in Schoenberg's haunting Verklaerte Nacht, Op. 4 for String Sextet. The Sextet is complemented and contrasted by the String Quartet K. 421, in D Minor by W. A. Mozart, and String Quartet in A minor, Op. 29, No. 1, D. 804, "Rosamunda" by F. Schubert.

The closing program of the season in entitled Rarity. We are proud to present critically acclaimed pianist Zakhary Metchkov performing the Piano Quintet by A. Schnittke. The program also includes String Quartet No. 7, in F Sharp Minor, Op. 108 by D. Shostakovitch, and String Quartet No. 2, in D Flat Major, Op. 15 by E. Dohnanyi.

We are truly looking forward to seeing you all and sharing our beloved music with you!
